10代中盤から母国マレーシア(Malaysia)の代表として活躍し、ASEAN kendo大会では複数回の入賞歴を持っているのが、Aimi Sabriさん。道場も開いて剣道を広める活動にも熱心なAimiさんにアンケートをお願いしました。

How old were you when you started kendo and why did you start?
9 years old
What do you find attractive about kendo?
The way of the discipline and how you can feel the person when you cross your shinai with them. So many things to learn and connected with people in many ways.
Is there anyone in your family who plays kendo?
Use to have my little sister and little brother, but they are no longer doing it.
Have you participated in any world championships? Have you won any prizes in ASEAN competitions?
I participated every WKC and ASEAN Kendo tournament (AKT) since 2006. Yes for Asean Kendo tournament, for individual, I won gold medal on 8th AKT, 2007, gold medal on 10th AKT, 2013, silver medal on 11th AKT, 2016 and gold medal on 12th AKT 2019. For team, gold medal on 10th AKT and silver on 12th AKT.
What did you feel after participating in world and ASEAN competitions?
Always the best feeling after each tournament, and always best to reflect to improve further not just for myself, but for the country as well.
What are you proud of in kendo?
The way of the life that been taught to be discipline and respect every single being in this world.
What do you do in your daily work?
I am a fund manager at Malaysia Pension fund.
Do you have hobbies other than kendo?
Yes, I do outdoor and indoor cycling, and also jumprope (skipping)
What are your future goals in kendo?
My future goal is to build my small club, Ai kendo club, to be able to represent my country, Malaysia and make the country proud as how I am proud of them.
Do you have any kenshi whom you look up to as your goal (target) and why?
There is so many kenshi that I respect and love all their techniques, and still way far to catch, for example, Eiga Naoki sensei and also Takahiro Nabeyama sensei. And a friend and a sensei to me in Narita, Azusa Komatsu sensei, who has been helping me build my kendo and Ai Kendo Club for a better future. I was so into a shiai kendo when I was younger, but now I am focusing on more beautiful
